The lack of changes to the Savage are one of the truely amazing things about this bike.
In production since 1985, apparently not imported to the Americas in the years 89- through 95 - it reappeared in 1995 with a 5 speed tranny instead of the original 4 speed. My '89 - produced in November of '88 other than trim and color is the same machine as an 85 and a 99.
As I have previously said - in nearly 40 years of riding the Savage stands out as a significant peice of motorcycle engineering for me and will certainly rank #1 on my list of favorite bikes.
At Sturgis this summer - two equally grey haired riders spoke to me in a gas station - one on a BMW and one on a Harley - they both also own Savages and acknowledged that the Savage gets more use than either of the big name bikes.
Enjoy your machine folks - they are destined to become classics -100% the equal of their big single fore runners like the Ariel Red Hunter pre WWII, the Norton Manx of the 50's , the Matchless GSR80 of the 60's
